Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) has once again been recognized as one of Hamilton-Niagara’s Top Employers, an annual competition that highlights organizations leading the way in workplace excellence, employee development and community impact.

The Hamilton-Niagara’s Top Employers competition evaluates organizations against peers of similar size and industry, using eight criteria including workplace environment, benefits, training and skills development, performance management, and community involvement.

“Hamilton Health Sciences is proud to be recognized as a place to begin and build a meaningful career.”

Hamilton Health Sciences was selected for its strong focus on learning, career development and employee wellness. HHS offers a wide range of teaching and hands-on work experiences for the next generation of health professionals, including summer employment, co-op placements, internships and new graduate roles. Employees are also supported to continue learning throughout their careers through the Staff Education & Development Fund, which provides financial support for academic courses, workshops and other professional development opportunities.

HHS supports employee well-being through free access to on-site fitness facilities, including instructor-led classes and an indoor walking track, as well as organization-wide wellness initiatives such as the annual Walktober challenge. The organization also offers retirement planning assistance and contributes to a defined benefit pension plan, helping employees plan confidently for the future.

“Hamilton Health Sciences is proud to be recognized as a place to begin and build a meaningful career,” says Tracey MacArthur, president and CEO. “Our goal is to be Canada’s top hospital for career development – where people can get their start, develop their skills, explore opportunities across teams and sites and build careers that make a real impact on patients and our health system.”

With its diverse workforce and strong culture of collaboration, Hamilton Health Sciences continues to create pathways for employees to move into new roles, take on greater responsibility, and build transferable skills across clinical, research, education and corporate teams.

“Organizations thrive when their communities do,” says Richard Yerema, executive editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. “The winners on this year’s list have made it a priority to reaffirm their investment in employees even in an unpredictable economic environment, and they’re doing that by reinforcing existing intercommunity links, and establishing new ones.”
